Overview

Liberia Campaign For Peace, which was an anti war movement, was established in 1996, and immediately changed to Liberia Human Rights Campaign in 2006, following the Liberian special election that brought to power Liberia's first postwar government. An election that was held under the Accra Peace Accord, known as the Comprehensve Peace Agreement or CPA, signed on August 18 2003, in Accra, Ghana. The CPA was the final peace agreement that officially ended 14 years of uncontrollable violence in Liberia. It is estimated (United Nations) that over 250, 000 Liberians, mainly women, children and unarmed persons, lost their lives. The decision by the belief that the violent

LHRC has established itself as the champion for the implementation of the recommendations of the final report of the Liberian Truth and Reconciliation Commission, or TRC. LHRC, has joined many peace loving Liberians and organizations by touting the implementation of the recommedations of the TRC report as the genuine path to true reconcilaition in Liberia. Through public statements, peaceful demonstrations and protests, LHRC has kept the flame of justice and accountabilty burning to insure that impunity is defeated and rejected by all Liberians.

To end impunity in Liberia by the full implementation of the TRC report and putting in laws that strongly support all human rights actions.

Is to have a society that is sensitivity towards human rights abuses, where there is apathy among all Liberians, including decision and policy makers, towards the respect and protection of all the rights of Liberians.

AN ACT TO ESTABLISH THE TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION (TRC) OF LIBERIA

Whereas in 1847, Liberia was declared the first independent Republic in Africa as a beacon of hope, freedom, liberty and justice;

AND
Whereas the nation, since its independence, has been confronted with challenges and socio-economic and political conflicts, which polarized the nation and culminated into the violence of the late 70’s leading to the military coup in 1980;

Liberian war crimes suspect re-arrested in France
